2010 Annual Conference - New Challenges
As members gathered at the Renaissance Resort, World Golf Village, St. Augustine two things became very clear. Attendees were still waiting for the big recovery for the industry but their enthusiasm for what they do and for aviation was still strong. It was a pleasant sound to hear laughter fill the Trade Show during the social events.
Our meeting sessions were informative and provided attendees with some new perspectives. Our thanks to our speakers, Jeff Kohlman, Aviation Management Consulting Group; Eric Prutsman, FATA Lobbyist; Nelson Rhodes, AOPA; Harry Houckes, NBAA; Richards, Richards & Associates; Dan Anderson, Pinkard, Lynch & Robbins; Keri Dowling, Aviation Legal Group PA; Ari Good, Good Attorneys at Law, P.A.; Bob Showalter, Showalter Flying Service; Bob Blouin, Hawker Beechcraft; Mark Paolucci, Cessna Aircraft Company, Steve Cass, Gulfstream Aerospace, Mike Brown, Gulfstream Aerospace, and Steve Johnston, Piper Aircraft; Michelle Raines, inc - MARKETING LLC and Rob Mark, Commavia for spending some of their valuable time with FATA.
On Wednesday, we presented a new program, Beyond the Runway - Why General Aviation Means Business. Area aviation leaders were invited to participate on a panel that was focused on educating the non-aviation business leaders who attended about our industry. Our members already knew the information the panelists provided but the visitors did not. We wanted our members there so they could talk with the non-aviation guests. The program was well received and we now have some aviation advocates outside our industry. Our panelists were, Ed Wuellner, Executive Director, Northeast Region Airport at St. Augustine; Michael Lukowski, University Air Center, Gainesville; George Robbins, Vistage Florida Group; Colonel Art May, St. Johns County Sheriffs Office and Sgt. Jason Caban, St. Johns County Sheriffs Office. The program was moderated by Rob Mark, CommAvia. The board has decided to continue this program so we can share the importance of our industry with the non aviation businesses. We need them to know that aviation is a strong economic driver in the community and that the airport brings products and services to their community.
Next year we return to the Ritz-Carlton, Sarasota, June 13 - 15, 2011. We have a guaranteed room rate of $139 for this spectacular location! Save the date.
