On April 13, 2010 SB 220 moved through the Finance & Tax Committee. The companion Bill, HB 173 is on the Senate Floor and we are one step closer to passing the exemption for the use tax that has plagued Florida for so long. The 21 day exemption during the first 6 months of ownership and unlimited time in Florida during the first 6 months for maintenance, repair, modification or flight training is almost a reality. We will keep you posted as to the next step which will either be another committee or directly to the floor to be heard.
Our thanks to all who have shown their support including Aircraft Owners & Pilot Association, National Business Aviation Association and Florida Airports Council. Our combined efforts have proven very successful. We will keep you informed as to the next step.
SuncoastAirCenter purchased the assets of the former VeniceJetCenter in January of 2010. As the sole FBO service provider on the field, the new operators are looking to restore their FBO, the airport, and the aviation community as a whole to good standing within the community. While the airport has faced major challenges from an anti-aviation city council majority, it has seen significant support from the majority of the community, local businesses, and trade groups such as FATA, NATA, and AOPA as well as the FAA. Suncoast is confident their customer-first philosophy as well as a focus on client needs will help them to exceed expectations for pilots on every stop. They have also recently opened the Suncoast Café in the FBO with a great view of the airport and delicious food, open 7 days a week from 7:30-2:30 pm.
