JACKSONVILLE INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT RECEIVES FEDERAL FUNDING TO BUY TWO NEW SCREENERS

JACKSONVILLE, July 21, 2010- The Jacksonville Aviation Authority (JAA) announced that the U.S. Department of Homeland Security awarded Jacksonville International Airport (JAX) with “Millimeter Wave Advanced Image Technology.”  Funding for the new screening machines was received through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA).

“We are extremely grateful for the funds we have received to buy the new, state-of-the-art screeners. It is of upmost importance to keep up with the best security available in order to make traveling through JAX as safe as possible,” said the JAA’s Director of External Affairs Michael Stewart.  “I am also thankful for the support received by Congresswoman Corrine Brown and for her diligent efforts to ensure safety and security at JAX.”

Advanced-imaging technology is a full body screening system that can detect items that may be concealed under clothing.  It safely screens for metallic and nonmetallic threats, including weapons and explosives.  This system allows screening without physical contact, making the process more comfortable for passengers.
